Snow Job! posted January 04, 2010
Watching the snow fall Sunday night was an exciting event at the Ramey house. Gina and I have four children, and their excitement at the prospect of another day off from school and the possibility of building a snowman tomorrow was showing on each of their faces. I personally could do without it. Oh, it's pretty, I guess. But it surely makes it hard on those who have to work outside and travel for their livelihood. While I was watching from my upstairs office late into the night, it hit me. The snowfall is a lot like this campaign. Candidates are as different as each snowflake. What makes us different? Age, life experiences, vocations. It's the journey of life that has made all of us unique. In many campaign cycles there is a great emphasis on things superficial. Candidates look or sound good while they are running or the "snow is falling," but after the election is over, we see the same thing happen every time. The campaigns were as pretty as the snowfall, but it's always the working people who are left to scoop up the mess. You may hear that blue-collar, working people need not apply to run for office. Nonsense, we've had to clean up their mess long enough! | [+] |
